Maria Karpman, president of Karpman Consulting, was the technical and project leader for Targeted Residential Energy Analysis Tool (TREAT) from it's inception through 2006. TREAT received the prestigious R&D 100 Award as one of the 100 most significant technological achievements of 2005. The tool employs a calculation engine developed by the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) and combines state of the art hourly energy simulation with billing analysis to allow for model calibration.
